Job description
Overview

We are inviting applications for an enthusiastic and organised research coordinator to work on the Speech, Hearing and Early Language Learning (SHELL) Study organised by Dr Lizzie Buchanan-Worster and Dr Matt Davis.

Project Scope

This project will administer computerised tests of hearing and speech listening to whole classrooms of 5‑6 year old children (2400 children overall). Children will complete these assessments during engaging science education sessions, using tablets and headphones. We will also measure children’s language and reading skills (e.g. their vocabulary knowledge) and other cognitive abilities (e.g. paying attention) and then follow these children over two school years to determine how hearing and spoken language skills relate to standardised classroom outcomes (e.g. phonics check scores).

Key Responsibilities

A key part of the role will be overseeing the organisation of the project, including liaising with teachers, school leaders and SENCOs and coordinating the team of research assistants to attend school visits. It will also involve assisting with management of the data coming in from school visits and publicising project results and other outcomes.

Fixed‑term

Fixed‑term: This role is available for 1 year in the first instance, with the candidate starting at the beginning of March, with the possibility for extension.
