Job description

The Relief Pharmacist will deliver the core duties of our pharmacists whilst adapting to different work environments and teams, working across all our Outpatient Pharmacy sites. They will provide a safe, effective and caring pharmaceutical service that meets the needs of patients attending the outpatient pharmacies.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver an effective service including screening and clinically checking prescriptions.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with patients and other stakeholders to achieve high healthcare and business performance.
  • Co‑ordinate and contribute to the day‑to‑day operations of the pharmacy, including clinical and accuracy checks of hospital prescriptions and TTO prescriptions to ensure timely patient discharge.
  • Learn and understand different pharmacy systems (EPR, JAC, CMM); training will be provided.
  • Provide advice and information on medicines management and stock supplies to patients and wider clinical teams.
  • Support the chemotherapy screening pharmacists in performing accuracy checks on oral SACT and supportive medicines prescriptions.
  • Support the counter assistant with over‑the‑counter sales, providing appropriate advice.
  • Help develop and deliver the business plan, driving performance against professional best practice, sales and profitability.
  • Assist in staff development, team motivation, lead by example, monitor performance and conduct performance reviews.
  • As the Responsible Pharmacist, assure service quality and patient safety through policies, procedures and competent personnel.
  • Stay current with MHRA recalls and act accordingly.
  • Maintain a professional clinical network for sharing ideas, advice and support.
  • Monitor team performance against key indicators including customer satisfaction, value for money, formulary compliance, incident response, error rates and product alerts.
  • Submit and act upon DATIX incidents and contribute to periodic reviews with the Trust Head of Pharmacy and Managing Director.
  • Ensure confidentiality and clinical information, adhering to the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information legislation.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and provide concise reports and communication as required.
  • Manage personal development including annual CPD and revalidation requirements.
  • Adhere to H&S, equal opportunity and other legislations; communicate policy updates to the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Complete SWFT oral chemotherapy training to enable clinical screening of prescriptions.
  • Be a key holder and open/close the pharmacy when required.
  • Work across sites depending on the business needs.
  • Any other relevant duties at the request of the line manager.

  • Engender a customer‑first culture across the organisation, ensuring high standards of professional customer service.
  • Provide a liaison service between users and suppliers to fulfil customer needs.
