Job description

Regulatory opportunity with a small unit looking to add some new edges, within an established commercial firm.

Newly created role in the Regulatory unit of a mid‑tier commercial firm, somewhere between Associate and Legal Director being best fit so upward of 3 years relevant regulatory experience. Leeds based with hybrid attendance.

The team handles an interesting mix of work across corporate crime, trading standards, health and safety, and environmental, representing businesses and individuals facing investigation and prosecution. Suitable candidates will want an involving role, to both service work but also be involved in business development and networking efforts to tap new specialist streams.

Specialist skills of interest include Environmental, Transport Regulatory, and Inquests, all of which tie well with the firm’s existing services or client roster and which would present opportunities for further growth. Niche's of Professional Disciplinary, perhaps Health edged regulatory, or broader Health and Safety would also be worth discussing as there are angles the firm may consider to tap new markets. The partner is very much open to exploratory conversation to see what might be accommodated.

Anyone with sector profile, or perhaps a lateral hire who believes they'll have some client following will be of particular interest and will be engaged with on an individual basis. But if you have expertise and a particular focus then you'll be encouraged to define and develop that type of work, you can step up to take ownership of a niche as part of this small team, likely supplemented with other work from the department.

A popular firm, doing non‑publicly funded regulatory work, and able to offer a decent market position and balanced expectations. They should appeal to a larger commercial firm background lawyer, or to someone already in a regional firm looking for a better platform or prospects for progression.

Brooke Thornham Consulting advertisements use PQE levels purely as a guide to the level of experience required for the role and this does not prohibit applications from candidates who are able to demonstrate the necessary skills and experience. We aim to respond to enquiries as soon as possible but if we have not contacted you within 5 days then unfortunately on this occasion your application has not quite met the requirements of our client closely enough.
