Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development and opening of a new children's home. The successful candidate will take ownership of the registration, set‑up and leadership of the new service, embedding high standards of care, safeguarding and therapeutic practice from the outset. Prior to the home opening, the Registered Manager will work alongside our established Registered Managers within our existing homes, gaining a thorough understanding of our values, systems and work and contributing to service development and best practice across the foundation. As Registered Manager you will lead the day‑to‑day operation of our children’s home. You will be responsible for creating a nurturing environment where young people can thrive, while ensuring full compliance with Ofsted, Children’s Homes Regulations and all relevant safeguarding legislation. You will manage and develop the staff team, oversee care planning and drive continuous improvement to achieve positive outcomes for the children in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build trusting, positive relationships with young people
  • Stay calm and grounded in challenging situations
  • Work collaboratively within a team and be open to learning
  • Meet the physical and practical demands of the role (including working a rota and accompanying young people to activities)
  • Drive Foundation vehicles to transport young people to appointments and activities
  • Work confidently within a trauma‑informed environment
  • Lead the day‑to‑day management of the children’s home in line with Ofsted and Children’s Homes Regulations
  • Promote safeguarding and act as the designating safeguarding lead for the home
  • Ensure the home provides a safe, nurturing, trauma‑informed care that meets each child’s individual needs
  • Oversee care planning, risk assessments, behaviour support plans and placement management
  • Manage budgets, resources and rota planning effectively
  • Recruit, supervise, support and develop the staff team, ensuring high standards of practice
Qualifications & Experience
  • A Level 5 diploma in leadership & management, or the willingness to work towards one
  • Significant experience working within a children’s residential care setting, supporting children with complex needs, trauma or challenging behaviours
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience within a residential childcare or social care environment
  • A strong understanding of children’s home regulations, quality standards and Ofsted inspection frameworks
  • Experienced in developing and leading staff teams, including supervision, performance and training
