Quarry Operative

Hourly Rate: £15.03 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 7 am to 5 pm, five days a week, plus a Saturday morning once per month
Location & Postcode: This role is primarily based at our main site, Darrington Quarry (WF11 0AH), with occasional travel to nearby locations, including Jackdaw Crag and Barnsdale Bar Quarries, as business needs require.

As a Quarry Operative at FCC Environment, you will:

  • Provide safe operation and routine maintenance of fixed and mobile plant and carry out any other duties as directed by the Quarry Manager. You will be expected to work as part of the production team to operate the quarry efficiently and safely, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week, plus a Saturday morning once per month.

What will you be doing?
  • Operate quarry plant and machinery safely and efficiently
  • Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, and complete records
  • Report accidents, hazards, and near misses to the manager
  • Participate in Health and Safety and Environmental Management initiatives
  • Work in accordance with staff rosters, providing cover for absences and overtime as required
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and PPE are used and stored correctly
  • Support site clean-up and preventative maintenance as needed
What are we looking for?
  • Experience: Relevant experience in the quarrying industry, ideally operating plant and machinery such as loading shovels and other mobile plant
  • Knowledge: Operation and maintenance of quarry plant; completion of all required training
  • Attributes: Positive, enthusiastic, and flexible attitude; strong drive and resilience; proven ability to work as part of a team; ability to collaborate at all levels and add value to decision-making; able to re-evaluate priorities and respond positively to change
