Job Description: Quantity Surveyor
Overview

My client are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join their growing and dynamic team. You will play a critical role in managing construction costs and ensuring projects are delivered within budget while meeting quality and safety standards. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced quantity surveyor to contribute to innovative refurbishment and construction projects with a leading main contractor.

Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, your main duties will include:

  • Preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents for construction projects.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and value engineering exercises as needed.
  • Collaborating with project managers, architects, and contractors to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
  • Reviewing and negotiating subcontractor agreements and contracts.
  • Monitoring project progress and preparing reports related to costs, cash flows, and financial forecasts.
  • Managing variations, claims, and resolving disputes in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Conducting on-site visits to monitor progress and ensure adherence to budget and quality standards.
  • Proactively identifying areas for cost savings without compromising on functionality or quality.
  • Staying up to date with relevant legislation and compliance requirements in the construction industry.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, particularly within refurbishment or main contractor roles.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in relevant construction estimating and project management software.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.

Day-to-Day

On a typical day as a Quantity Surveyor, you can expect to:

  • Attend project meetings with clients, contractors, and architects to discuss costings and project scope.
  • Draft and review bills of quantities, schedules of works, and tender packages.
  • Conduct site measurements and valuations to assess progress and ensure alignment with project budgets.
  • Analyse project risks and propose cost-effective measures to mitigate them.
  • Update financial reports and liaise with finance teams for payment certifications and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with project teams to address challenges and recommend solutions on-site or in the office.
