Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Quality Manager to join an extremely busy and expanding Manufacturing Engineering client based in Bradford. This position has become available due to business growth and looking for someone to join in a senior leadership role to develop the quality department.

This is a key leadership role within a high‑precision engineering environment, requiring strong people skills, the ability to communicate across all levels, and a genuine passion for educating and developing teams in Quality and QHSE processes.

The successful candidate will take a hands‑on role within production while leading a team of Quality Engineers and Inspectors. You will work to aerospace industry standards and play a pivotal part in driving continuous improvement, reducing cost, improving delivery performance, and sustaining high levels of product quality.

Role Description
Quality & Compliance Leadership
  • Lead the development and implementation of departmental quality objectives, ensuring alignment with AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Maintain and improve all quality documentation, ensuring processes meet customer, regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure all processes deliver in line with customer specifications, terms of business and industry standards.
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture across the business, embedding best practice and driving efficiency.
Audit, Standards & Certification
  • Formulate and manage internal, supplier and subcontractor audit plans.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customer and supplier audits, positively representing the business.
  • Ensure all international, national and customer specifications are available, controlled and up to date.
Champion APQP / PPAP processes across NPI and production.
  • Ensure FAIRs are completed for NPI, process changes and production requirements.
Operational Quality Management
  • Provide day‑to‑day quality leadership within production to support SQCDP targets.
  • Ensure non‑conformances are managed effectively, with root cause analysis and corrective actions implemented.
  • Track and report Cost of Quality, sharing insights and driving corrective actions.
  • Oversee calibration, servicing and maintenance of measurement and inspection equipment.
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to across all areas, including shop floor activities.
Support compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Identify risks and hazards within the manufacturing environment and ensure appropriate controls are in place.
Customer & Supplier Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with customer and supplier representatives, promoting the company’s commitment to quality.
  • Lead supplier development activities to reduce non‑compliance, cost and delivery issues.
  • Prepare and deliver quality reports, highlighting improvements, actions and progress.
General Responsibilities
  • Provide Quality input to daily production meetings.
  • Support identification and notification of any product escapes to customers.
  • Maintain awareness of industry innovations, trends and best practice.
  • Undertake any reasonable request from the senior management team.
Skills & Attributes
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar Quality or QHSE leadership role within a manufacturing or engineering environment (aerospace experience advantageous).
  • Strong working knowledge of AS9100 / ISO 9001, with additional understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Qualified through a recognised engineering apprenticeship or minimum 5 years engineering experience.
  • Experience leading Quality teams and driving continuous improvement.
  • Internal Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 or 45001).
  • Lead Auditor desirable.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coach, train and engage employees.
  • Practically minded, able to work under pressure and resolve issues quickly.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Full UK driving licence.
