Job summary

A leading NHS trust is seeking a Qualified SCP for their Theatre department with a specialty in robotic surgery. This role requires expertise in robotic surgery along with leadership and communication skills. The successful candidate will work directly under Consultant Surgeons while supporting and training theatre staff in advanced surgical practices. Job description
Position Summary

We have an opportunity for a Qualified SCP position working within our Theatre department, with a specialist interest in hepatobiliary and colorectal surgery. You will be skilled in robotic surgery as well as first and second assisting, whilst also participating in aspects of pre‑, peri‑ and post‑operative care of the patient under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert assistance and support in robotic surgery to the Consultant Surgeons, SPRs, theatre staff and patients involved in robotic surgery.
  • Act as a nurse specialist / Surgical First Assistant (SFA) and provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to health professionals concerning a specific disease/condition.
  • Demonstrate significant advanced knowledge and skills within the speciality and sphere of practice.
  • Support training within the robotic surgery theatre team.
  • Maintain corporate identity as an expert within the specialist area of robotic surgery.
  • Lead and provide training and education across the organisation in the relevant area of practice.
  • Develop and manage the professional development of the operating theatre teams you operationally and professionally manage.
  • Work at an advanced practitioner level and promote clinical excellence across the team and the organisation, driving forward service objectives for development and innovation while maintaining day to day operation of the service.
  • Collaborate closely with other Band 7 theatre coordinators, matrons, consultant colleagues and key stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications & Attributes

Expected to hold an MSc qualification in Surgical Care Practice (or a Band 7 appointment will be considered for applicants with willingness to complete at the time of appointment if there are no suitable Band 8a qualified candidates).

Experience working at an advanced practitioner level with a focus on promoting clinical excellence within the team and the organisation.

Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills; drive and ambition to develop people.
