Job summary

A leading materials manufacturer in East Yorkshire is looking for a QC Chemist to test polymer materials and chemicals, ensuring compliance with ISO9001. Qualifications

  • Previous laboratory testing experience in physical testing (hardness, elongation etc).
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 standards or equivalent.
  • The ability to work independently when required.

Responsibilities

  • Testing of polymer materials and chemicals using wet chemistry and physical techniques.
  • Sampling products off the production line and investigating non-conformances.
  • Ensuring compliance with ISO9001 and accurately recording test results.
  • Equipment calibration and general upkeep of the laboratory.
  • Assisting R&D in optimizing new and existing formulations once trained.

Job description
Overview

QC Chemist – established building materials manufacturer based in East Yorkshire with 40+ years of trading, providing bespoke products to the construction and automotive sectors and experiencing growth.

Hours of work: Monday to Thursday, 5am to 2pm or 1pm -10pm (alternates on a weekly basis). Friday - 3 hours maximum (early finish).

Responsibilities
  • Testing of polymer materials and chemicals (raw materials and final products) using wet chemistry along with physical techniques (elongation, hardness etc).
  • Sampling products off the production line and investigating non-conformances.
  • Ensuring compliance to ISO9001 and other regulatory standards and ensuring that test results are accurately recorded and filed.
  • Equipment calibration and general upkeep of the laboratory.
  • Once fully trained, assist R&D team on optimising new and existing formulations and to troubleshoot on production.
Requirements
  • Science qualification - ideally A-level (or equivalent) or above.
  • Previous laboratory testing experience in physical testing (hardness, elongation etc), SG, viscosity.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 standards (or equivalent)
  • The ability to communicate with people at all levels and work independently when required.
