There is more to the RCN than you might think. We’re a trade union with a membership of over half a million nurses, midwives, nursing support workers and students. We support their practice, represent them, lobby on their behalf, and develop them. We exist to make a positive difference – to the working lives of our members and ultimately to standards in patient care. Our employees come from many walks of life – we are nurses, marketers and communicators, administrators, IT professionals, policy and finance experts, lawyers… together we are so much more. We couldn’t do what we do without our people.
Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement Officer – you’ll bring energy, creativity, and a keen eye for detail to support the College’s work in influencing policy makers, external stakeholders and the public—always with our members at the heart of what we do.
It’s a job full of possibilities, offering plenty of opportunities to develop your potential. You could get involved in anything from building relationships with stakeholders to writing briefings for Parliamentarians to organising events to engage members. You’ll also play a vital role in supporting the monitoring and administrative systems that keep our Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement teams running smoothly. Ultimately, you’ll be at the heart of building campaigns on the issues that matter most to nursing staff and patients, shaping health and social care policies, and promoting excellence in nursing practice.
We offer an impressive range of benefits, a broad range of learning development opportunities and an award-winning health and wellbeing programme. Annual leave up to 32 days plus bank holidays and three additional days for the Christmas break plus generous maternity, adoption, paternity, and shared parental leave packages. We offer a competitive pay structure with annual pay progression until the top of the salary scale. We normally offer the first point of the salary range, with potential to negotiate a higher starting salary based on skills and experience. We support flexible working with a hybrid model: up to 60% of time from home and at least 40% in person.
