Start: ASAP (January 2026 start available)

Contract: Flexible – full-time (term-time), part-time, or sessional options considered

Salary: Competitive (above National Minimum Wage), dependent on experience/qualifications

About BCI

British Creative Institute (BCI) is a specialist post-16 setting supporting learners aged 16–25 with SEND. We deliver inclusive learning through a blend of on-site provision and flexible models that help learners build confidence, independence, wellbeing, and progression.

The Role (Flexible – based on your strengths)

We are seeking a PSHE / Personal Development Tutor to deliver an engaging, accessible programme for SEND post-16 learners. The role can be shaped around your experience and may include any combination of:

  • PSHE / Personal Development for post-16 (skills for adult life and next steps) (pshe-association.org.uk)
  • Relationships, Health and online safety themes (age-appropriate and trauma-informed)
  • Emotional wellbeing, self-regulation, resilience, confidence and communication
  • Personal safety: boundaries, consent awareness, exploitation awareness, healthy relationships
  • Community and citizenship themes: rights, responsibilities, British values (as appropriate)
  • Employability preparation: workplace behaviours, CV basics, interview confidence, communication
  • Independence skills: budgeting, travel confidence, self-advocacy, decision-making
  • Small-group sessions and/or 1:1 mentoring-style delivery (for learners needing a calmer approach)
  • Blended/remote-friendly delivery methods where learners need flexibility

Onboarding and induction will be provided to the right applicant, including support to deliver both the practical and theoretical elements of the programme to SEND post-16 learners.

Key Responsibilities (tailored to your remit)
  • Plan and deliver structured, step-by-step sessions using visuals, modelling, checklists, and clear routines.
  • Differentiate for a wide range of SEND needs (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, communication needs).
  • Create a safe, respectful learning environment where sensitive topics are handled appropriately and calmly.
  • Track learner progress and record evidence in a simple, consistent way.
  • Work closely with the SENCo, pastoral team and curriculum staff to align learning to individual targets and EHCP outcomes (where applicable).
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly—KCSIE sets expectations for all school/college staff to understand safeguarding responsibilities.
Applicant Requirements (Flexible)

We welcome applicants from education, youth work, mentoring, pastoral support, community learning, or wellbeing backgrounds.

You could be:

  • A PSHE / Personal Development Tutor or lecturer OR
  • A mentor/pastoral practitioner with strong curriculum delivery skills OR
  • A youth/community professional able to teach and facilitate learning safely and inclusively
What matters most
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with SEND learners and keep sessions calm, structured and purposeful.
  • Confidence delivering life-skills/wellbeing content in an age-appropriate way.
  • Strong boundaries, professionalism, and a safeguarding-first mindset.
Desirable (not essential)
  • Post-16 PSHE/KS5 experience or similar (mentoring, enrichment, tutorial programmes) (pshe-association.org.uk)
  • Experience supporting learners with anxiety, low attendance, EBSA, or SEMH needs
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, or restorative approaches
  • Confidence supporting employability and independence outcomes

Safeguarding & Compliance
  • Enhanced DBS (and Children’s Barred List check where the role is eligible/required).
  • Identity and right-to-work checks, plus qualification/professional checks where applicable
  • References (typically two professional; we may request an additional character reference depending on the role)
  • Understanding and compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (in force from 1 September 2025).
  • Awareness of the Prevent duty responsibilities relevant to education/FE settings.
