Overview

Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Propulsion Controls Engineer - System Control Verification to be based at our customer's site in Gaydon. Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role: We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented Propulsion Controls & Calibration Engineer to lead the verification of control systems for electrified propulsion platforms (xHEV: HEV, PHEV, MHEV). This role is critical in validating the performance, reliability, and safety of control features such as energy management, torque coordination, regenerative braking, and hybrid mode transitions. You will work across simulation, bench, and vehicle environments to ensure that control software meets functional requirements, calibration targets, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute verification plans for xHEV control systems including energy flow, torque arbitration, and hybrid mode logic
  • Perform MIL, SIL, HIL, and vehicle-level testing to validate control software functionality and robustness
  • Conduct fault injection, edge-case testing, and regression analysis to ensure system stability
  • Analyze logged data and KPIs to assess control performance across drive cycles and operating conditions
  • Calibration & Integration Support
  • Collaborate with calibration teams to validate control parameters and ensure seamless integration
  • Support software flashing, debugging, and validation during prototype and production builds
  • Use tools such as ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, CANalyzer, and MATLAB for diagnostics and analysis
Qualifications & Compliance
  • Ensure traceability between system requirements, control logic, and verification results
  • Document test cases, results, and issue resolution in alignment with ASPICE and ISO 26262 standards
  • Interface with software developers, systems engineers, and safety teams to support release readiness
