Job description
Project Manager – Flagship Scheme, Southwest Region

Are you a seasoned Project Manager ready to take ownership of a high‑profile, transformative infrastructure project? We're recruiting on behalf of a leading client for a flagship scheme in the South West Region, where you'll play a pivotal role in delivering critical elements of a major build. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic team and make a lasting impact on a landmark development – ideal for ambitious professionals who thrive in fast‑paced, hands‑on environments.

About the Role

As Project Manager, you'll report directly to the Project Director and collaborate closely with two fellow Project Managers to share overall build responsibilities. Your focus will be on delivering the concrete foundation, temporary utilities, and drainage packages, ensuring seamless execution from planning through to handover. This is a hands‑on position where you'll drive progress, manage subcontractors, and uphold the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

The project demands long‑term commitment, with work based in the South West Region. We're seeking candidates who are flexible and willing to work away from home for extended periods – this could be an excellent fit for those who can provide their own accommodation and embrace the challenges and rewards of site‑based delivery. If you're mobile and ready for a role that offers stability and progression on a prestigious scheme, this is your chance to shine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of concrete foundations, temporary utilities, and drainage works, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to meet project milestones.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively, mitigating risks and resolving issues proactively.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Foster strong stakeholder relationships, including with the Project Director and on‑site teams.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the flagship scheme, sharing build accountability in a collaborative setting.
Candidate Profile

We're looking for experienced Project Managers with a proven track record in civil engineering or construction projects, ideally from Tier 2 contractors such as Churngold, Stephensons, or Alun Griffiths. Candidates from these backgrounds often bring a breadth of responsibilities – from hands‑on site management to strategic oversight – that sets them apart from those in Tier 1 environments. You should be a specialist who can hit the ground running, with expertise in foundation works, utilities installation, and drainage systems.

Essential Experience and Skills
  • Extensive experience managing similar packages on infrastructure or civil projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, including concrete pouring, utility setups, and drainage engineering.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously while collaborating in a team of peers.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with a focus on delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, SMSTS / CSCS certification).
Availability and Commitment

This role requires immediate or near‑term availability to ensure momentum on the scheme. We're open to both permanent salaried positions and freelance contractors – if you're a freelancer with specialist expertise, we want to hear from you. The project timeline is aggressive, so flexibility is key: candidates must be prepared for long‑term assignment in the South West, potentially away from their home base. In return, you'll enjoy the autonomy to manage your own accommodation arrangements, making this suitable for those who value independence and are accustomed to site‑living setups. Start date is flexible but targeted for early 2026 to align with project phases.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive package up to £80,000, including benefits tailored to your experience.

Freelance Day Rate negotiable based on expertise and track record – we reward those who deliver results.
