Job Description

Working on a highly regulated nuclear construction site, the Ecological & Environmental Project Manager responsibilities are as follows:

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Leading multidisciplinary teams to evaluate and manage the impacts of nuclear projects (e.g., new power station construction, decommissioning) on air quality, water resources, land use, and ecology.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all project activities adhere to stringent national and international environmental and nuclear regulations, working closely with regulatory bodies like the Environment Agency and the Office for Nuclear Regulation.
  • Waste Management: Developing and implementing methods for the safe storage and disposal of radioactive and other hazardous waste.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicating confidently with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders regarding environmental issues and project progress.
  • Project Management: Managing project scope, budget, schedule, and risks, while promoting health and safety standards.
  • Remediation and Restoration: Working on topics related to land remediation and the restoration of ecosystems impacted by facility operations.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant discipline such as Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, or Engineering with further qualifications in project management.
  • A strong understanding of environmental regulations and specific technical areas like radioecology or hydrology is essential.
  • The ability to critically review complex documents, solve problems, and research environmental queries.
  • Previous project management experience, preferably within an environmental or sustainability sector, is highly valued. Experience in the nuclear sector, particularly with regulator-driven projects, is a significant advantage.
  • Pursuing accreditation from professional bodies like the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is advantageous.
  • Willingness to work on site full time.
  • Fluent in English.
