Project Engineering Lead Job - Sizewell B, Leiston, Suffolk

A leading organisation within the UK nuclear sector is seeking a Project Engineering Lead to support major engineering activities at Sizewell B Leiston, Suffolk. This permanent position offers the opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of complex, high-integrity projects that directly contribute to the safe and efficient operation of one of the UK's most significant nuclear facilities.

The Opportunity

The Project Engineering Lead will provide strategic technical leadership and coordination across multidisciplinary engineering teams. Operating with autonomy and responsibility, the individual will ensure robust engineering integration, uphold nuclear safety culture, and support the successful delivery of project objectives. The role demands broad technical expertise—particularly in mechanical, piping, structural and civil engineering—combined with a strong appreciation of process, electrical, and control & instrumentation principles.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Integration
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering technical solutions for Sizewell B operations and maintenance.
  • Act as the central point of contact for cross-discipline integration, design coordination, and resolution of technical issues.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet project scope, safety requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Participate in design reviews, safety workshops, and risk assessments.
  • Support continuous improvement across engineering functions.
Project Delivery
  • Contribute to successful planning, execution, and completion of engineering projects.
  • Support interactions with clients and regulators on technical matters.
  • Provide technical input to planning, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Coordinate and review key documentation including specifications, calculations, drawings, and safety reports.
  • Manage technical interfaces between engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a strong nuclear safety culture and ensure adherence to regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Drive quality assurance in design, analysis, and documentation.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build effective relationships with clients, regulators, and internal teams.
  • Represent the organisation at technical meetings, design reviews, and project discussions.
Configuration & Information Management
  • Support configuration management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee technical information management, ensuring consistency, traceability, and compliance.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and support initiatives that enhance project delivery, efficiency, and technical excellence.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or a related engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer status desirable.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in nuclear, energy, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Broad engineering experience with an ability to integrate multidisciplinary inputs into coherent solutions.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear safety culture, codes, standards (e.g., ASME III/VIII/B31.3, RCC-M, EN, ISO 19443), and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Experience with engineering software, 3D design tools, or calculation software beneficial.
  • Knowledge of PWR systems or nuclear power station operations advantageous.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages desirable.
Work Environment & Requirements
  • Primarily based at Sizewell B, with occasional travel to other UK sites.
  • Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
  • UK security clearance at the appropriate level is required.
