Job Description Summary
We are looking for a dynamic and committed leader to join the HVDC Product Delivery Group's Center of Excellence, taking on a pivotal role in delivering the energy transition.
As UK Team Leader for Project Engineering Managers (PEMs), you will report directly to the Global Head of Project Engineering Management. You will be responsible for leading and growing the team of PEMs based in Stafford, ensuring the successful execution of HVDC projects within your scope.
Drive the performance and successful delivery of HVDC projects, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and execution excellence.
- Lead, grow, and develop the UK PEM team: ensure talent acquisition, onboarding, career development, and technical leadership.
- Take ownership of the project KPIs (QCD, risks, client engagement) and ensure project engineering delivery meets expectations.
- Responsible for direct people management, staffing, and performance development.
- Promote a strong project culture: Establish a culture of ownership, accountability, and anticipation within the PEM organization.
- Actively contribute to the transformation of the PEM organization toward a culture of project excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
- Lead and develop the UK PEM team: Coach and support PEMs to grow their project leadership, technical understanding, and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Ensure projects objectives are met: Oversee project engineering performance (QCD, risks, KPIs) across its HVDC projects portfolio, ensuring consistency, application of GE processes and high standards.
- Drive alignment across stakeholders: develop and foster collaboration between PEM organization, technical functions, and all teams involved in project delivery.
- Support project reviews and escalations: Act as primary escalation point for engineering topics in project reviews. Ensure that critical issues are addressed and resolved.
- Participate in strategic planning: Collaborate with Engineering Directors, Head of Functions, to improve project governance, processes, and capabilities.
- Utilise knowledge of a technical discipline, technical experience and analytical thinking to execute policy strategy.
- Serve as the technical leader to develop a scope of work and provide technical leadership and interface with Proposal Management, Cost Estimating, Partners, Customers, GE Product Engineering, Sourcing, Engineering sub‑contractors.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree, Engineering School, University or equivalent knowledge/experience, ideally in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls engineering.
- Strong experience in complex EPC projects and leading engineering disciplines, with significant experience of people leadership.
- Passionate about developing teams and people, with an ability to drive large‑scale, high‑impact initiatives. Extensive focus on developing technical, project management and leadership competence in staff, ensuring comprehensive training and development plans are in place and enacted.
- Proven ability to identify and resolve issues, and ability to work in an English speaking environment.
- Take a pro‑active approach to ensuring Health & Safety is paramount, including conducting Risk Assessments where necessary.
- Significant customer interface experience, ability to influence others and lead teams, and excellent interpersonal skills.
