Qualifications

Location

Remote working with regular travel to Yorkshire Water sites and offices, typically two days per week.

Work type

Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Yorkshire Water supplies clean and safe drinking water to over 5.4 million residents and supports millions of visitors each year. We protect the environment, safeguard communities, and plan for the future of Yorkshire’s water and wastewater services, ensuring 24/7, 365‑day operation. The Programme Delivery department delivers the Capital Construction Programme, focusing on cost optimisation, commercial excellence and contract‑management excellence.

Where you fit in

As a Project Engineer on the Specialist Projects stream, you will manage end‑to‑end design and construction of Clean Water, Waste Water, and Networks schemes, working closely with a wide supply chain.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver cost‑engineered solutions in response to business risks.
  • Manage and coordinate design, ensuring correct engineering acceptance against agreed scope.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations:
    • Act as Principal Contractor on behalf of Yorkshire Water.
    • Assist the Client & Principal Designer with their duties.
  • Manage project execution, aligning with Health, Safety and Environmental standards and engineering requirements.
  • Prepare contract and scope of works documents and conduct tender processes with framework contractors.
  • Apply robust financial controls throughout the delivery process, ensuring commercial awareness guides all decisions.
What skills & qualifications you will need
  • Electrical, ICA or mechanical apprenticeship, engineering degree, or equivalent.
  • ONC/HNC/BTEC in Electrical, ICA or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Thorough understanding of CDM regulations and practical application.
  • Knowledge of control‑of‑works principles – Permits, POWRA, RAMS, LOLER, EWAR, etc.
  • Broad experience with electrical, ICA and mechanical equipment, using this to produce engineered solutions.
  • Understanding of design and delivery processes, including hazard identification, risk assessment and site supervision.
  • Strong technical and non‑technical communication skills.
  • Experience with DSEAR, ATEX, British standards and COSHH regulations.
