Technical Lead - Rig Design

Role Overview

This role is pivotal within the business and within the program(s) to which the technical lead is assigned. The Technical Lead carries the authority to decide the technical direction taken by a project and leads the technical team by determining the scope of work content. The role works closely with the Program Manager and the Discipline Leads, maintaining alignment with the Chief Engineer’s advisory office.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of mechanical structures, fluid systems, electrical/electronic controls, and instrumentation for rigs.
  • Oversee and review CAD models, analysis models, detailed drawings, wiring diagrams, assembly instructions, and BOMs to ensure compliance with relevant aerospace standards and customer specifications.
  • Provide leadership during build, commissioning, and troubleshooting of rigs on-site or at customer locations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate cross‑functional teams.
  • Manage technical documentation, including design reports, validation plans, and test procedures.
  • Own the delivery of the program scope of work in collaboration with the Program Manager.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical degree.
  • Experience with gas turbine rigs from concept to design to installation across the whole engine.
  • Proven experience modelling and drafting complex gas turbine components.
  • Proven experience in the design and development of rotating machinery test rigs or ground support equipment.
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD design, analysis methods, manufacturing, assembly, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to lead troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis during commissioning and testing.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality systems is preferred.
