Crown House Technologies – Enterprise Solutions are part of the Laing O’Rourke Construction Group.

Enterprise Solutions provide the in‑house expertise to design, install and commission MEP (mechanical, electrical and public health) specialist systems which includes Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), Security Systems (Video Surveillance Systems (VSS), Access Control and Intruder Alarms), Information Communications Technology (ICT), Lighting Control (LCS), Ventilation (ductwork) and Sprinklers.

You will work within the BEMS team under the guidance of our experienced engineers, alongside site supervisors and managers.

You must have strong technical acumen with a positive interest in engineering & technology. You will also have a professional approach and a keen eye for detail, excellent communication and IT skills are also vital for the role.

Key Deliverables and Accountabilities of a Trainee BEMS Engineer
  • To learn and understand automated control systems
  • To be able to read a specification and apply control principles associated with the design to create engineering documentation
  • Understand communications technology and standard industry protocols
  • Understanding the requirements for the installation of electrical wiring systems
  • To learn, understand and manage the production automated application software, system graphical user interface (GUI) and Digital engineering (DE)
  • Assist the commissioning and point‑to‑point testing and commission control panels (CP) to monitor and control mechanical systems
  • Adhere to all company policies & procedures, particularly to health & safety

This ensures greater predictability of cost, quality, programme and safety for our clients. Through the provision of smarter engineering‑led solutions – focused on whole‑life value and long‑term performance – our technical team ensures the full benefits of this approach are realised for our clients.

A Trainee BEMS Engineer will provide valuable support to our technical function and project delivery teams as we achieve our business priorities and client requirements. You can expect to be involved with a range of our technical and operations activities. For example:

  • Planning and project controls

Location

As a project‑led business, the location of our work can vary depending on project needs. This role may require you to be prepared to work away from home at project sites across the UK.

Apprenticeship Level and Standard

BEMS (building energy management systems) controls engineer – Level 4, 36 months.

Entry Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have obtained or are on track to obtain (but can be flexible for the right candidate):

  • 5 GCSEs with preferably grades 7‑4 in Maths and English
  • Minimum of 72 UCAS points across 3 A‑levels at grade C.
  • If studying A Levels, you must have Mathematics and preferably a Science in either Chemistry
  • Eligible to work in the UK. We do not offer visa sponsorship
  • Be flexible as you may be required to work away

    You will complete a series of assessments designed to understand how you approach workplace situations, your preferred ways of working, as well as exercises to evaluate your critical thinking and numerical reasoning skills.
  • Video Interview
    At this stage, you will be invited to record responses to two questions set by our hiring team. You will have sufficient time to prepare and ensure you present yourself confidently.
  • Assessment Centre
    Our in‑person assessment centres, held at a LOR office, provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills through a combination of individual tasks, short interviews and group activities. This is also a chance to experience our culture first‑hand.
  • Outcome
    We aim to provide feedback and communicate the outcome of your assessment centre within two weeks.
