Job description
Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Production Supervisor to join our team near the Canterbury area. This is a permanent role with standard working days from Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading a team of operators, ensuring the efficient and effective running of the machine shop while maintaining high standards of quality, health, and safety.

Salary: £36-£40k

Location: Canterbury

Responsibilities
  • Organising daily workloads and resources to meet production schedules and achieve KPIs such as On‑Time Delivery (OTD), quality, and arrears management.
  • Collaborating with the Planning Team to meet production requirements.
  • Managing team priorities, authorising holiday requests, and monitoring sickness and absence.
  • Overseeing health and safety processes, including accident and near‑miss reporting, risk assessments, and COSHH compliance.
  • Identifying and improving quality issues such as scrap, rework, and Not Right First Time (NRFT) occurrences.
  • Supporting and implementing initiatives to enhance team skills and flexibility, maintaining up‑to‑date skills matrices, and ensuring adequate training for all operators.
  • Conducting team briefs, toolbox talks, and performance reviews.
  • Deputising for the Production Manager when required.
  • Monitoring and maintaining high standards of housekeeping in line with 5C policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
Qualifications
Essential
  • Basic GCSE qualifications.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience in supervising or leading a team.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning, and quality systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and MRP/ERP production systems.
  • Ability to read CAD drawings and conduct first‑off inspections.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and delegation skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including risk assessments and COSHH.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
Desirable
  • Experience in deputising for a Production Manager.
  • Familiarity with 5S or similar lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in recruitment, interviews, and assessments.
  • Knowledge of component manufacturing and engineering support requests.
Day‑to‑Day
  • Coordinate and oversee daily production activities to ensure targets are met.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as OTD, quality performance, and arrears management.
  • Conduct team meetings, toolbox talks, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Manage and update training matrices to ensure team members are adequately trained.
  • Address and resolve quality issues, including scrap, rework, and NRFT.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure compliance with company policies.
