Job description
Overview

Pertemps are supporting an innovative organisation working in a specialist defence-related industry, delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions that demand precision, speed, and reliability. With tight deadlines and high standards, they pride themselves on their ability to deliver complex projects on time and to specification. Their purpose is simple but powerful: removing the world’s most dangerous materials to protect lives and make environments safer.

About the Role

We are seeking a Production Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring production plans are executed effectively and on schedule. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will coordinate across Design, Procurement, CNC, Project Engineering teams and suppliers to keep projects running smoothly from start to finish. This role is more than just planning — it’s about making the plan happen. You’ll need to bring strong mechanical engineering knowledge, experience in fast-moving production settings, and the drive to keep activities aligned, address bottlenecks quickly, and ensure departmental communication is clear and effective.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, execute and maintain the production plan, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule.
  • Coordinate closely with Design, Procurement, CNC, and Project Engineering teams to keep workflows aligned.
  • Act as the central communication point between departments, suppliers, and senior management to identify and resolve issues quickly.
  • Monitor progress against project milestones, escalating risks or delays where necessary.
  • Drive accountability across teams, ensuring actions are clear and commitments are met.
  • Support continuous improvement in production efficiency and cross-team communication.
Qualifications
  • A strong mechanical engineering background with 5+ years’ experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • Exceptional communicator — able to influence and coordinate across departments, suppliers, and senior management.
  • Apprenticeship trained, ideally HNC/HND in Mechanical or Production Engineering (minimum ONC).
  • Experience in a fast-paced production setting — able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to deliver against a production plan and solve problems under pressure.
  • Driven, motivated, and proactive — with the determination to get things done.

Applicants must be UK nationals and able to pass security vetting.
