Job description
Production Engineer

£55,000 - £60,000 | Barton Under Needwood (Initial period in Doncaster - expenses covered)

A £40m investment. A manufacturing site still under construction. A rare chance to engineer a facility from day one.

This is not a steady‑state production role.

This is an opportunity to join a major rail engineering organisation at a pivotal moment — as it delivers a brand‑new manufacturing and overhaul facility, currently under construction, designed to become one of the largest hubs in the UK and Europe.

As part of a large‑scale relocation and expansion programme, multiple product lines are being transferred into a newly built, state‑of‑the‑art site in Barton Under Needwood. The facility will feature brand‑new workshops, new equipment and modern production layouts, built for long‑term growth.

During the first 6‑12 months, the role will be primarily based in Doncaster as part of the transition programme, before moving permanently to Barton Under Needwood once the new site is fully operational.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering and operations, playing a key part in stabilising production while helping define how the new site operates long term.

As Production Engineer, you will act as the technical backbone of the shop floor — turning drawings, data, and intent into reliable, repeatable production performance.

You will:

  • Act as the key engineering link between operations and technical teams
  • Ensure accurate interpretation of drawings, routings and technical instructions
  • Investigate production losses using Lean / structured problem‑solving tools
  • Analyse data to identify inefficiencies and drive improvement projects
  • Lead engineering actions to resolve production issues and lock in results
  • Support the introduction of work into a brand‑new workshop with new equipment
  • Coach and support operators in standards, best practice and process mastery
  • Support planning, estimating and operational excellence activity as the site scales

What matters is strong production engineering capability, a hands‑on mindset and confidence operating in a fast‑changing, build‑phase environment.

This role suits an engineer who enjoys being on the shop floor, solving real problems, and helping shape how a facility runs — not just maintaining the status quo.

If you are a Production Engineer who wants to work in a brand‑new environment, influence how a site is built, and be part of a long‑term £40m investment — this role offers a challenge few others can.

Apply now to be part of the launch of a next‑generation rail manufacturing facility.
