Job summary

A leading manufacturing company in Standish is looking for a Process Safety Engineer to ensure site safety in a highly regulated environment. You will produce engineering deliverables, lead safety assessments, and develop safety management plans. Ideal candidates should have a degree in Chemical Engineering and proven experience in process safety. The Opportunity

A Process Safety Engineering opportunity has become available for one of our key clients in Standish on a permanent basis. The role will be joining up with an award-winning manufacturing company. As Process Safety expert on site, you\'ll play a pivotal role in ensuring site safety.

Responsibilities
  • Produce Technical Safety/process engineering deliverables as required in support of the business.
  • Develop safety engineering philosophies, design HSE plans, safety specifications, equipment specifications.
  • Chair and participate in formal process safety assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL target setting studies, generate study reports and manage subsequent actions.
  • Lead HAZID and SIL studies.
  • Input to, and participation at, project design assurance reviews such as P&ID reviews, Constructability reviews.
  • Hazardous area classification following industry codes and guidance.
  • Develop and implement functional safety management plans.
  • Produce and review specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring that they conform to engineering quality, competence, and project management systems.
  • Provide technical support to projects and sites as required.
  • Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislative changes, initiatives and industry technology developments.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of process safety and environmental engineering methodologies, software systems, and design practices as they relate to FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and plant Start-up.
  • Awareness of international codes and standards.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in process safety/chemical engineering.
  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering (BEng/MEng).
  • Proficiency in process operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR, latest Risk Assessment Techniques and other Health and Safety legislation applicable to [the role/source].
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to multitask and be self-driven.
  • Positive outlook and clear focus.
  • Technically proficient in all areas of process safety and loss prevention e.g. HAZOP, PHA, etc.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant H&S and Environmental Legislation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Bases of Safety.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading safety studies (HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA).
  • DSEAR risk assessment experience.
Desirable
  • Sound knowledge of manufacturing improvement strategies and approaches.
