Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004.

• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of private sector properties under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
• Investigate complaints and take enforcement action where necessary.
• Prepare and serve statutory notices in line with housing legislation.
• Liaise with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to resolve housing issues.
• Maintain accurate records and produce detailed reports of inspections.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join a local authority in the South West on a full-time hybrid contract. This role involves managing housing enforcement casework, ensuring compliance with housing standards, and improving conditions in the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of private sector properties under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
• Investigate complaints and take enforcement action where necessary.
• Prepare and serve statutory notices in line with housing legislation.
• Liaise with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to resolve housing issues.
• Maintain accurate records and produce detailed reports of inspections and enforcement actions.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004.
• Proven experience in private sector housing enforcement.

Essential

• HHSRS certification.
• Previous experience in housing enforcement within a local authority or similar setting.

Desirable

• Familiarity with council procedures and reporting systems.
• Previous hybrid working experience.
