Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a council based in Sussex, who are looking to appoint a Private rented Sector Housing Officer on a 3 contract. This will be a full‑time position. 3 days WFH.

The hourly rate for this position is negotiable depending on experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in the private rented sector and working for a council.

Responsibilities
  • Providing a tenancy sustainment service to private sector tenants & landlords who have approached the Council and are at risk of homelessness.
  • Working closely with colleagues in the Housing Options Team to operate the Council's Rent in Advance and Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
  • Investigating claims against Deposit Guarantees, including inspection of properties as required, negotiating with landlords, agents and tenants to reach an equitable settlement.
  • Helping and mediating with tenants and private landlords in relation to rent payments impacted by welfare benefit changes including Universal Credit to prevent homelessness.
Experience required
  • Experience in tenancy sustainment or housing support, including working with tenants and landlords to prevent homelessness.
  • Experience investigating tenancy disputes and negotiating resolutions between landlords, agents, and tenants.
Skills, knowledge and expertise required
  • Knowledge of private sector housing schemes, such as rent in advance or deposit guarantee programs.
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy rights, and homelessness prevention procedures.
Working hours

37 hours a week. Monday – Friday, 9am‑5pm.
