We're looking for an experienced and driven Principal Consultant to join our clients' Sustainable Places team within a leading global consultancy committed to "Enhancing Society Together."

The Role

As a Principal Consultant, you'll play a leading role in delivering transport and development planning advice on projects that range from large-scale urban developments to community-led masterplans. You'll work across both public and private sectors and lead multidisciplinary collaborations that result in better, more sustainable places.

  • Provide strategic transport planning and placemaking expertise on complex development projects.
  • Guide clients through the planning process, including preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and Section 106 advice.
  • Lead technical inputs such as site access strategies, movement frameworks, junction assessments, and active travel audits.
  • Collaborate with urban designers, architects, planners, and engineers to co-create sustainable access solutions.
  • Manage and deliver projects across sectors such as residential, education, health, care, leisure, and logistics.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and identify new business opportunities.
  • Contribute to professional development across the team and share best practice through mentoring, speaking, and industry engagement.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who brings both technical credibility and creative thinking to development-related transport planning. The ideal candidate will have:

Essential:

  • Proven consultancy experience in transport planning for development projects.
  • Strong project management skills, delivering to scope, time, and budget.
  • Technical proficiency in transport assessments, design guidance (DMRB, MfS, LTN 1/20, etc.), and planning legislation.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams on planning applications and consents.
  • A relevant professional qualification such as TPP or Chartered Engineer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

  • A network of industry contacts and evidence of client referrals.
  • Involvement in professional institutions, industry groups, or policy forums.
  • A commitment to mentoring and developing others in the profession.
  • Interest in contributing thought leadership through speaking, writing, or research.
