Job summary

A leading engineering company is looking for a Principal Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer to set engineering standards for systems and equipment at their Barrow-in-Furness site. This role involves providing technical guidance, reviewing control system designs, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. Candidates should have significant experience in C&I engineering roles, with expertise in machine control systems and BMS systems. The position supports hybrid working arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an EC&CI engineering role, predominantly C&I.
  • Experience in machine/crane control systems.
  • Experience with BMS systems & alarm and communication systems.

Responsibilities

  • Setting site engineering standards and requirements for electrical and control equipment/systems/facilities.
  • Providing advice regarding electrical & control systems in site facilities.
  • Reviewing electrical & control drawings and design packages.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for sitewide control systems.
  • Reviewing proposals to ensure equipment compliance.
  • Producing engineering documentation and ensuring proper classification.

Skills

Experience in an EC&CI engineering role, predominantly C&I
Experience in machine/crane control systems
Experience with BMS systems & alarm and communication systems

What you’ll be doing:
  • Setting site engineering standards and requirements for electrical and control equipment/systems/facilities
  • Providing advice and guidance with respect to the design in relation to electrical & control systems in the context of site facilities, including the application of design standards
  • Reviewing electrical & control drawings, schematics and design packages
  • Acting as a subject matter expert providing technical advice for sitewide control systems to operations, maintenance and projects
  • Reviewing proposals to ensure that the equipment/facilities are designed, constructed, commissioned, operated and maintained in accordance with the appropriate processes and standards
  • Production of engineering documentation (technical reports, operating instructions and process instructions) ensuring that it is appropriately classified, is authorised through due process and maintained under configuration control
Your skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Experience in an EC&CI engineering role, predominantly C&I
  • Experience in machine/crane control systems
  • Experience with BMS systems & alarm and communication systems

Desirable:

  • Experience of functional safety design
  • Experience and understanding of Radio frequency and EMC within an industrial environment
