Are you a Registered Adult Nurse and would like to work in a mental health setting?

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Adult Nurse to join the Physical Health team within Forensic mental health inpatient services as a Practice Nurse.

As a Practice Nurse you will be expected to take a lead role in the provision of a range of physical health care interventions across the forensic inpatient pathway. The role will primarily focus on the effective delivery of a range of health promotion/prevention interventions and the management of long-term health conditions, physical health screening, vaccinations, wound care and other routine physical health interventions that are usually offered within primary care/GP practices.

You will work closely with members of the physical health team, multidisciplinary teams and ward-based staff to support the delivery of timely, evidence-based physical health care. You will provide learning opportunities and guidance for staff and will take the lead supporting student nurses and paramedic students who are on placement within the team.

We are looking for someone who is passionate and enthusiastic about working in a mental health setting to support the delivery of high-quality physical health care. You will be working in a friendly, supportive and challenging working environment which will provide excellent supervision and opportunities for your continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work autonomously, as part of a wider physical health team and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, to provide evidence-based nursing care to patients across inpatient wards within the Forensic Directorate. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the physical health clinic(s) and the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of physical health care for patients across the Forensic Directorate. The post holder will play a key role in health promotion and the monitoring of long-term conditions. The post holder will support and oversee Junior staff members and take an active role in mentoring student nurses and TNAs. The post holder will also contribute to practice and policy development with support from senior staff.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
  • Registration with NMC
  • (Adult General Nursing) BSC degree in Adult nursing or equivalent A qualified/ registered mental with registration with NMC.
  • Recognised appropriate qualification in mentoring/assessing/supporting students in placement

EXPERIENCE
  • Relevant clinical experience to the role, including assessment and management of long term conditions
  • Ability to manage time and caseload effectively
