A central GP practice is seeking a part-time Practice Nurse to join their team in Huntingdon, offering approximately 30 flexible hours per week, with required work on Wednesdays and Fridays. The role focuses on providing high-quality primary care nursing, including Cervical Screening, Immunisations, and supporting patients with long-term conditions. Priory Fields Surgery is a central GP practice based in the town centre of Huntingdon. We are a busy practice with a large team. We are a training practice and promote learning on site which includes, students, trainee doctors, trainee nurses, and apprentices.
We are an NHS practice and offer many services to our registered population.
We are a very team orientated practice, and the staff are always on hand to help, and are warm and friendly.
We are looking for a part time Practice Nurse to join the team on a part time basis, for approximately 30 hours per week, the layout of this can be flexible, however the candidate must be able to work on a Wednesday and a Friday.
We are looking for a qualified Practice Nurse to work within the Surgery Nursing Team, to provide our patients with high quality care and deliver Primary Care nursing appointments, for example Cervical Screening, Immunisations, Dressings, ECG and Blood Tests, Contraceptive Checks, and other appropriate appointments. Although we would be keen for applicants to have training in these areas, we will also consider training for the right candidate, so long as they have the correct registration.
The surgery consists of a friendly, supportive team, with a keen interest in training and development. The practice has a dedication to staff wellbeing and work/life balance.
JOB PURPOSE AND
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
Undertake and record the following tasks:
Baseline observations - height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, temperature, respiration rate, etc.
Urinalysis
Peak flow measurements
Performing ECGs
Venepuncture and requesting pathology services as necessary
Removal of clips and sutures
Wound care
Leg ulcer bandages including compression bandages only after adequate training
Compression hosiery measurement
Responsibility in keeping clinical rooms tidy and stocked up as allocated by the lead nurse
Provide vaccination in line with the PGDs
Recognise patients presenting with mental health issues and seek advice as appropriate from duty doctor
Deliver opportunistic health promotion when appropriate
Undertake cervical screening and maintain cervical screening logs
Ensuring good communication with patients, relatives and carers
Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with the existing legislation
Ensure read codes are used appropriatelly
Participate in quality improvement e.g. audit, development of protocols and new services.
Attend practice/clinical/nurse meetings and contribute to the agenda in the development of the nursing service and where appropriate wider practice systems.
Participate in clinical supervision, 1:1 meetings and yearly appraisals.
Support junior members of the nursing team, providing guidance when necessary
Participate in the review of significant events and near-miss events
Any other jobs allocated by the lead nurse
Any other jobs given by Leadership / Management
