Job description

Responsibilities

• Treatment room: wound care, dressings, suture/clip removal
• All routine immunisations (childhood, travel, flu, pneumococcal, shingles, B12)
• Cervical cytology (smears)
• Ear irrigation
• Chronic disease management (diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension)
• NHS Health Checks
• Contraception reviews & depo injections
• ECGs, spirometry, venepuncture
• Assisting with minor surgery & coil fits
• Infection control & cold‑chain management
• Some telephone triage/support when needed

Qualification Requirements

• NMC registered Adult Nurse
• Minimum 2 years recent Practice Nurse experience in UK general practice
• Up‑to‑date cytology, immunisation & ear care training
• Confident with EMIS Web
• Current Enhanced DBS (or on Update Service)
• Full immunisation history (Hep B, MMR, etc.)
• Right to work in the UK

Desirable

• Independent prescriber or working towards
• Travel health qualification
• Diabetes or respiratory diploma

Details

Duration: Ongoing locum booking – minimum 3 months (January – March 2026) with very high likelihood of rolling extension

Days & Hours: 3 days per week (flexible which 3 days). Typical shift: 8:30 am – 6:30 pm (1 hour unpaid lunch). Total: 28.5 paid hours per week.

Clinical System: EMIS Web + About the Practice. Friendly, high‑achieving training practice with 12,000 patients, CQC "Outstanding". Supportive nursing team of 3 Practice Nurses, 2 HCAs and 2 GPs on site every day. Very pleasant working environment with free parking nearby.

Pay: £32‑£36 per hour (higher end for full 3+ days or long‑term commitment). Paid weekly. Free on‑street parking or contribution to travel.

Full induction + ongoing support from Lead Nurse. Regular coffee & cake supplied! Opportunity to increase to 4‑5 days or go permanent later in 2026.
