Lead Strategic Change Across a World-Class Defence Portfolio

The role

As a Portfolio Management Office Lead, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of our UK Submarines portfolio, providing strategic oversight and implementing governance across an integrated portfolio of programmes and projects.

Day-to-day, you’ll establish and lead the Portfolio Office, creating and owning the Portfolio PM Handbook.

  • Integrate programmes at portfolio level and provide insight for strategic decision‑making.
  • Manage portfolio-level strategic risks and ensure treatment plans are delivered.
  • Drive strategic change initiatives, including organisational effectiveness.
  • Develop capability plans and resource strategies to ensure a future‑ready workforce.

This role is full time role with 37 hours per week based in Bristol.

Essential experience of the PMO Lead
  • Proven experience in a PMO lead role, project delivery or project controls.
  • Strong track record of leading change initiatives at portfolio or senior level.
  • Deep understanding of project governance and controls, with hands‑on implementation experience.
  • Knowledge of cost, estimating, scheduling and risk management disciplines.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams and engage senior stakeholders effectively.
Qualifications for the PMO Lead
  • Project controls‑related qualifications (advantageous).
  • Familiarity with tools such as Power BI, Microsoft Project, P6 and risk management systems (advantageous).
