Overview

As a Senior Podiatrist in Offender Health, you will undertake assessment and treatment of patients within HM Prison (HMP) settings. This includes determining a clinical diagnosis, agreeing with the patient on a podiatric treatment plan, and maintaining records as an autonomous practitioner.

Responsibilities
  • Manage your own clinical caseload, including the management of waiting lists in partnership with the HMP site.
  • Maintain professional standards and comply with all PPH standards, policies, and procedures.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care, ensuring a high standard of clinical care.
  • Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, organizing this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  • Assess capacity, gain valid informed consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with complex presentations, using investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans.
  • Deliver a wide range of podiatric treatments, including nail surgery, MSK/biomechanics, wound care, diabetes care, and routine care based on the patients’ needs and the agreed management plan.
  • Provide advice and instruction to patients to facilitate and encourage appropriate self‑care as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers to ensure understanding of the condition.
  • Provide specialist advice, teaching, and training to other members of the multidisciplinary team as required.
