Connex Education is seeking compassionate and committed PMLD Tutors to support learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) who are currently unable to access mainstream education.

This is a deeply rewarding opportunity to work on a 1:1 or small group basis, helping students develop essential life skills, communication abilities, and confidence through highly personalised teaching. You’ll be more than a tutor—you’ll be a consistent, trusted adult helping young people overcome barriers to learning and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use multi-sensory and therapeutic approaches to engage and support learning.

  • Work closely with parents, carers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure consistency and care.

  • Focus on developing communication, sensory, physical, and independence skills in line with EHCP targets.

  • Provide emotional and behavioural support, promoting a sense of safety, calm, and achievement.

  • Maintain detailed records of progress, attendance, and engagement.

  • Implement individual care routines sensitively and appropriately where required.

  • Ensure all safeguarding, health & safety, and inclusion policies are rigorously upheld.

What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, HLTA status, or experienced SEND support staff/tutors welcome.

  • Proven experience working with students with PMLD, complex medical needs, or profound disabilities.

  • Understanding of PECS, Makaton, sensory integration, postural management, or physiotherapy routines (advantageous).

  • Empathetic, patient, and creative—able to think outside the box and adapt to each learner’s unique profile.

  • Confident working independently and in collaboration with multi-agency teams.

  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (preferred but not essential).
