Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a qualified Plumbing Lecturer to inspire and educate learners in Plumbing and Building Services. This role offers the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge in a supportive environment. Candidates should have a Level 3 qualification in Plumbing, a teaching qualification or commitment to achieve one, and significant industry experience. Enhanced DBS clearance is needed. Competitive hourly rate of £40-45 offered based on experience.

PLUMBING LECTURER
ASAP START • LONG-TERM WORK • ENHANCED DBS NEEDED • £40-45 PH UMB

Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in Plumbing and Building Services to learners across a range of FE programmes. The post holder will inspire learners to achieve their full potential, develop industry-relevant skills, and progress into employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Learning
    • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and effective lessons in Plumbing and related subjects.
    • Teach across a range of levels (e.g. Entry Level, Level 1-3, T Levels, Apprenticeships) as required.
    • Develop learners' practical skills, technical knowledge, and employability skills.
    • Use a variety of teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs.
    • Integrate Maths, English, and digital skills into vocational teaching.
  • Assessment and Learner Progress
    • Assess learners' work in line with awarding body and college requirements.
    • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support learner progress.
    • Track and monitor attendance, achievement, and progression.
    • Support learners with additional needs in collaboration with support teams.
  • Curriculum and Quality
    • Contribute to curriculum development to ensure industry relevance and compliance.
    • Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
    • Prepare learners for practical assessments, exams, and workplace expectations.
    • Participate in quality assurance, standardisation, and internal verification activities.
  • Industry and Professional Practice
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the plumbing industry, regulations, and best practice.
    • Ensure teaching reflects current industry standards (e.g. Water Regulations, Health & Safety, sustainability).
    • Develop and maintain links with employers and industry partners.
  • College Responsibilities
    • Act as a personal tutor where required.
    • Participate in open days, enrolment, and promotional events.
    • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD).
    • Comply with safeguarding, health & safety, equality and diversity policies.
Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Plumbing or Building Services Engineering.
  • Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training).
  • English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent).

Experience

  • Significant, recent industry experience as a qualified plumber.
  • Experience of working with apprentices or trainees (formal teaching experience desirable but not essential).
  • Experience of working to industry standards and regulations.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of plumbing systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with learners of varying abilities.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Competence in using IT and digital learning platforms.
