Whether internal, external, public or highly encrypted systems, Tyk helps businesses drive value across the retail, finance, telecoms, healthcare, or media industries (to name just a few!)

If you’ve banked online, used an app to check the news, or perhaps even driven a connected car, API’s, and by extension, Tyk, make that possible. Founded in 2015 with offices in London - UK, London - Ontario, Atlanta and Singapore, we have many thousands of users of our B2B platform across the globe. Brands using Tyk range from Lotte, Bell, T Mobile, to RBS, Capital One and Vinci. We have a varied user base hailing from every continent – even Antarctica.

Our Mission

Tyk is on a mission to connect every system in the world. We’ve started by building an API Management platform.

Total flexibility, default remote, radical responsibility

We offer unlimited paid holidays and remote working from anywhere in the world for everyone.

We are seeking a highly autonomous and technically strong Platform Engineer to be a key individual contributor in designing, building, and operating our production‑grade platform and release engineering systems. This role demands a proactive, results‑oriented professional with a strong security‑first mindset and a track record of driving technical excellence and DevOps transformation.

What You’ll Bring: Core Capabilities & Experience
  • Ownership and Autonomy: Proven ability to take full ownership, drive initiatives independently, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Demonstrated skill in identifying and prioritizing systemic problems before they elevate, rather than merely reacting to requests.
  • System Ownership: Experience working as a sole or primary technical owner for critical production systems and infrastructure.
  • Production Experience: Extensive hands‑on experience operating and designing platform tooling, release systems, and production Kubernetes environments at scale.
  • CI/CD & Release Engineering: Expertise in release engineering, developing robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using GitHub Actions), and deployment automation.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Configuration Management: Proficient in using tools like Terraform and Helm for IaC, and Ansible/cloud‑init for configuration management.
  • Cloud Platforms: Required expertise with AWS; familiarity with Azure/GCP is a plus.
  • Software Development: Strong technical decision‑making ability and professional Go development experience, including CGO on Linux and relevant toolchains.
  • Packaging & Distribution: Experience with packaging systems for Linux (RPM, DEB) and developing container image build processes.
  • Compliance & Security: Experience supporting compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC2) and a security‑first development mindset, including secure software supply chain practices.
  • AI Tooling & Security: Experience leveraging AI‑assisted tools to improve engineering throughput while maintaining stability, coupled with the ability to implement security controls (e.g., data handling, access controls, prompt injection prevention) for AI‑enabled workflows.
Essential Soft Skills & Practices
  • Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to drive DevOps transformation and embed platform engineering best practices across teams.
  • Distributed Systems: Understanding of distributed systems and core reliability principles.
  • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional self‑management, prioritization, and strong cross‑functional collaboration skills, engaging effectively with Product, QA, Security, and SRE teams.
  • Communication & Advocacy: Excellent communication skills across technical levels and a vocal, opinionated approach to challenging the status quo and advocating for technical excellence.
  • Best Practices: Deep understanding of software engineering best practices, including unit testing, code reviews, TDD, and SOLID principles.
Key Technologies (Hands‑on Experience Required)
  • Languages: Go (including CGO on Linux)
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions
  • OS/Packaging: RPM, DEB, Container Image Builds
  • Configuration Management: Ansible, cloud‑init
  • IaC/Orchestration: Terraform, Helm, Kubernetes, Docker, ECS, Fargate
  • Cloud: AWS (Required), Azure/GCP (Beneficial)
  • Databases: MongoDB, Redis, or similar distributed storage systems
Here’s why you should join us
  • Everyone has unlimited paid holidays.
  • We have total flexibility in hours, as we believe creativity flows better when our people are given freedom to decide when they are most productive.
  • Employee share scheme
  • Generous maternity and paternity leave
  • Volunteering Days
  • Company retreats
  • Employee Wellbeing platform
