Overview
The Platform Architect will play an integral role in defining, delivering and supporting RDG's Cloud platform and shared services (aka the RDG Platform). They will be responsible for ensuring that the RDG Platform meets business requirements across the business and align with RDG Architecture Principles and Policies.
What you will do
- Identify key business and functional requirements for Platform Services by working with internal and external teams.
- Evaluate, select and proof‑of‑concept technology platforms to meet requirements.
- Design and document end‑to‑end Platform Services, collaborating with other RDG Platform Architects, suppliers and customers.
- Ensure Platform Services are implemented, quality‑assured, transitioned into operations and rolled out successfully.
- Maintain Architecture Definition Documents (ADD) and enterprise architecture models for Platform Services.
- Align Platform Services with RDG Architecture Principles, Policies and government standards such as GDS.
- Help develop technology roadmaps for future development and evolution of the RDG Platform.

Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience in development, Infrastructure as Code, front‑end/back‑end development.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS Landing Zone, Azure, etc.
- Knowledge of networking/security services (e.g. Amazon Transit Gateway, Security Hub).
- Experience with CI/CD, GitLab, identity and access management (Microsoft Entra ID).
- Monitoring and performance tools (New Relic, Grafana, etc.).
- API gateway and management platforms (AWS API Gateway).
- Message queue and broker (Kafka, ActiveMQ).
- Certificate and secrets management (AWS, etc.).
- Relevant IT architecture experience (3+ years) and software development/engineering experience (5+ years).
- Professional degree or postgraduate qualification e.g. Computer Science.
- TOGAF, Zachman or other architectural design methodology certification, and AWS or other platform architect certification.
- Excellent written and spoken English; ability to work flexibly, under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
