Plant / Project Engineer

Location: Exeter
Salary: £52,000 - £55,000

Butler Rose are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of an established Exeter-based manufacturer for an Electrically Biased Plant / Project Engineer. This is a key, permanent role within the business, supporting the maintenance, improvement, and future development of manufacturing equipment, plant services, buildings, and infrastructure.

Reporting to the Plant Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, driving continuous improvement, and supporting capital and improvement projects across the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, specify, source, and purchase new machines and equipment
  • Create and manage project plans for machine moves, equipment installations, improvement, and cost reduction initiatives
  • Supervise contractors and sub-contractors, ensuring delivery to time and cost while adhering to company and H&S standards
  • Carry out plant engineering activities across electrical infrastructure, buildings, and manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision
  • Identify and implement cost reduction, reliability, and method improvement opportunities
  • Provide technical expertise through data analysis, planning, and execution to improve equipment availability and asset utilisation
  • Drive reliability excellence (REX) initiatives on critical equipment
  • Identify root causes of recurring faults and reduce downtime through reliability improvements
  • Support maintenance teams with fault finding across plant and equipment
  • Purchase parts and equipment, manage receipts, and raise purchase requisitions
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for new and existing equipment
Requirements
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical or Controls Engineering
  • Minimum of 1 year's relevant engineering experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment
    (Development opportunities may be available for candidates with alternative engineering qualifications and experience)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and write maintenance procedures
  • Experience with CAD, automation systems, CMMS, or ERP systems would be advantageous
  • Ability to collect and analyse Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) data
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; awareness of Microsoft Project
  • Multi-skilled experience across electrical and mechanical disciplines would be an advantage
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
