This post is being advertised as band 5 or 6, dependent upon experience.

Our Planning, Costing, and Productivity teams at RUH Bath, GWH Swindon and SFT Salisbury have come together as part of the new BSW Hospitals Group, creating an exciting opportunity to shape a smarter, more integrated approach to costing across all three Trusts.

We’re now recruiting talented individuals to help us build this new way of working. With roles based at any of our group sites – Bath, Swindon or Salisbury – you’ll be part of a forward‑thinking team working at scale to deliver real impact.

Planning, Costing and Productivity in the NHS is a chance to bring real insight into how resources are used throughout the patient journey. Our team calculates the cost of every activity the Group provides, delivering mandatory cost returns, service line reporting and high‑quality information that influences key decision‑making, planning and benchmarking across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

As a Planning, Costing and Productivity Accountant, you’ll play a key role in managing and running the Group’s costing systems, producing accurate, meaningful costed activity data on a quarterly cycle. You’ll drive continuous improvement in data quality, help refine costing processes, and work closely with colleagues across finance and operational teams to ensure our insights make a difference. You will work in a team of two Planning, Costing and Productivity Accountants.

The Group supports hybrid working, with two to three days per week on site.

About us

As Planning, Costing and Productivity Accountant, you will

  • manage, update and maintain the Group’s costing systems to provide high quality data to support the Senior Finance Team, Divisional Directors/Managers, and Clinical Managers in all aspects of costing.
  • provide cost data to support services with productivity reviews, benchmarking, planning and improved financial management of the Group’s activities.
  • produce the annual national cost collection, a mandatory submission for all Trusts in the Group.
  • liaise with service teams to identify and improve data which will enhance the quality and accuracy of costing.
Job responsibilities

Across our Group, our Finance teams are known for being supportive, collaborative and genuinely welcoming. We believe in helping every team member reach their full potential, with ongoing training, development opportunities and a strong culture of shared learning. All our teams are currently accredited at Level 1 with Future Focused Finance, and were ambitiously working towards Level 2 accreditation in 2026.

If you’re enthusiastic about improving healthcare through high‑quality financial insight and want to be part of an evolving, ambitious and supportive team we’d love to hear from you.
