Overview

We are delighted to announce a new opportunity for an experienced Photography Conservator to join our Conservation Department. This is a newly created post and an exciting chance to help shape how we care for and interpret our rich and varied photography collection, which is extensive, diverse, complex, and full of stories waiting to be discovered.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and treat a wide range of materials and formats within the photographic collection.
  • Contribute to delivering the organisation’s mission to make art work for everyone and share the collection with the widest possible audience.
  • Support the organisation’s wider strategy, including Public Offer, equalities, and environmental priorities.
  • Preserve the collection while enabling an ambitious programme of exhibitions, a generous lending programme, and a busy acquisitions programme.
  • Engage in research and outreach to deepen knowledge of the collection and attract new audiences.
  • Engage with historic and contemporary paper-based materials, slides, negatives, time-based media (analogue, digitised, and born-digital film and video), albums, and related equipment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to shape care, interpretation, and access to one of the collection’s most complex components.
Required qualifications and attributes
  • Professional experience as a Photography Conservator with the ability to assess and treat a wide range of photographic materials and formats.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an active professional network.
  • Resourceful, proactive, and capable of working within a dynamic conservation team.
