A healthcare provider in Redditch is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform duties including venipuncture and patient care under the supervision of a Practice Nurse. This role requires prior Phlebotomy qualifications and involves maintaining accurate patient records. The successful candidate will work 20 hours a week, with training on the clinical system provided. A strong emphasis is placed on teamwork and patient-centered care, and the practice offers a supportive environment for professional growth.
Duties will include Phlebotomy and BloodPressure checks but also to assist medical personnel in the care of patients
Treatment and Preventative Care
Screening and Patient Education
As part of the Nursing Team, the Phlebotomist will provide a service to patients of the practice working under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols. The post-holder will be responsible for performing duties as requested by the clinical team and administrative duties as deemed suitable by the Partners. Full training of the clinical system will be given prior to any patient contact. The role involves the use of the computer and keyboard along with the ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload.
To maintain a safe and effective level of practice and to bring any deficits in training to the attention of the Lead Practice Nurse so that these can be addressed.
They will be required to wear a uniform and a name badge, which is supplied by the Practice, to act in a professional manner at all times and to adhere to the Practice policies, protocols and guidelines.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Obtaining patient consent for any procedure undertaken
Procedures/duties to include but not limited to:
Maintaining accurate patient records on the medical system
The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Working in conjunction with the Practice Nurse
Vaccine /cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Ordering medical supplies when requested by clinicians
Clearing, re‑stocking treatment rooms
Maintenance of surgical equipment
Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly and full sharps bins are ready for collection
Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post
Additional Duties
Recording height, weight, urine and blood pressures of patients as required
We are looking for a 20 hours per week GP Surgery Phlebotomist to join our thriving, democratic and enthusiastic team at our surgery located in Redditch Town Centre on Thursdays and Fridays. Redditch is located 15 miles south of Birmingham with in easy reach of Stratford, Worcester and surrounding countryside with good transport links and an increasing and diverse population.

Our team consists of 4 GP partners, 6 Salaried GPs, a Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician, 6 Nurses, a HCA and Phlebotomist supported by fantastic administrative and care navigation teams. We are passionate about teaching undergraduate students from Birmingham Medical School, FY2 Doctors and GPTrainees.

Previous evidence of skills is essential, but further clinical system training will be provided in house initially.
Accountability
Although accountable to the Partners of the Practice through the Practice Manager as an employee, they are ultimately responsible for their own practice and must ensure that limitations are always acknowledged. Full training will be provided for any clinical procedures.
Administration
Details of all patient contacts and procedures must be entered onto the computer, correctly and accurately. Details of stock control should be recorded legibly and records of instrument sterilisation etc maintained if necessary. They will participate in audits where appropriate.
Liaison and Communication
As well as the Nursing Team, the Health Care Assistant will be required to work closely with Reception and will be expected to communicate and liaise with other members of the Surgery Team. They will communicate effectively with patients and carers and recognise patients needs for alternative communication and respond accordingly.
