Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding Homecare and High Cost Medicines Team at Kettering General Hospital. The homecare department has seen significant growth, now supporting over 2,300 patients across a wide range of therapeutic areas. We are seeking an innovative, motivated, and detail‑oriented technician to support the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective delivery of medicines through homecare.

The successful candidate will work closely with clinical teams across the Trust and with external homecare providers to ensure a high standard of patient care. You will play a key role in developing and improving departmental processes, supporting service improvements, and contributing to the ongoing growth of our homecare services.

Main Duties
  • Support the Lead Pharmacist and Specialist Technician in homecare and high cost medicines in the development and delivery of the homecare service.
  • Coordinate and manage operational aspects of homecare, liaising effectively with providers and internal hospital teams.
  • Ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of homecare medicines and associated documentation.
  • Provide technical support to specialist pharmacists, technicians, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff, patients, and external suppliers.
  • Contribute to audits, reporting, and service improvement projects.
  • Support the optimisation of high cost medicines use across the Trust.
  • Undertake other technical duties as required to support the wider pharmacy service.
Essential
  • GPhC‑registered Pharmacy Technician.
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Sound knowledge of pharmacy technical processes and IT skills for the pharmacy computer.
  • In‑depth understanding of electronic ordering and invoicing systems.
  • Broad technical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to promotion of high quality, effective and cost‑effective use of medicines.
  • Proven ability to influence a team and its outcomes.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in homecare medicines services.
  • Involvement in service improvement or audit work.
  • Experience of analysing audit results and providing written reports of the findings.
  • Understanding of the local and national homecare agenda.
  • Previous experience working within the homecare team.
