Job description

The PharmacyTechnician will work to support the delivery of safe, effective, and efficientuse of medicines within GPS Healthcare. This role provides an opportunity forthe post holder to gain experience across a range of pharmacy technician dutieswithin the primary care setting. The Pharmacy Technician will support the multi-disciplinaryteam with administrative, reconciliation, medicines management tasks andclinical safety tasks both autonomously and as part of the team.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertaking a patient supporting role to ensureeffective medicines use, through shared decision-making conversations withpatients
  • To provide advice to patients with long termconditions (LTCs) on specific medicines management issues
  • Carry out medicines optimisation tasks,including effective medicine administration, supporting medication reviews,medicine awareness and medicines reconciliation.
  • To provide advice to GPs, staff and patients inchanges to prescribing to support the improvement of prescribing safety,quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Support the organisation in the delivery ofclinical safety processes to ensure safe, effective practice across the PCN.
  • To participate in audits of medication that require frequent monitoring.To respond to medication queries from patientsand staff in a professional manner referring to the appropriate GP inaccordance with practice protocols.

Job responsibilities
  • Help to maintain accurate patient medication records and documentation.
  • Participate in stock management processes, including ordering, storing, and safe handling of medicines.

  • To support the implementation of nationalprescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and otherprimary care settings.
  • Undertaking clinical audits (e.g., use ofantibiotics), supporting quality improvement measures and contributing to theQuality and Outcomes Framework and enhanced services.
  • Delivery of medicines optimisation incentiveschemes (e.g., medicines switches) and patient safety audits.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience of working within team environments
  • Minimum 2 years experience within the pharmacy sector.
  • Experience working in primary care setting.
Qualifications
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English, Maths and Science (or equivalent)
  • Completion of CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway (PCPEP)
Knowledge and Skills
  • Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good use of IT packages such as the Microsoft suite
  • Knowledge of Primary Care Networks (PCNs), NHS policy, and prescribing management.
