Job description
Overview

As a TCP dispenser you will be working in both the inpatient dispensary and the new outpatient dispensary. Our dispenser team is a vital component for delivering a high quality service to patients and Trust colleagues. The applicant must have experience of working in a busy dispensing environment. The complex medicines prescribed and treatment regimes seen as routine within the hospital are very different from those encountered in a community pharmacy, but all new dispensers follow a structured six month induction programme, supported by a mentor and nominated pharmacist. When completed the dispenser will be confident in the operation of automated dispensing robots, the compilation of complex treatment therapies for inpatients and outpatients, assembly of discharge prescriptions, stock supply to wards and peripheral clinics.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure excellent patient care and customer service is provided at all times.
  • Ensure waiting times for customers are kept within agreed Key Performance Indicators.
  • Work as a team player with all colleagues within the pharmacy. Share knowledge and skills, be flexible and willing to help colleagues.
  • Receive and check prescriptions directly from patients and carers.
  • Accurately log the prescription onto the prescription tracking system.
  • Accurately dispense under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist at the time, checking that all legal requirements are met.
  • Be compliant, and act within the pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures, clinical guidance and training provided.
  • Record dispensing interventions on Trust systems in a timely manner.
  • Record dispensing incidents and ‘near miss’ incidents according to procedural policy.
  • Take responsibility to ensure the area you are working in is safe.
  • As the company develops you may be required to undertake training in order to upskill.
