Job description
Overview

Pharmacy Assistant, Clinical Trials, Band 2 – Chelsea based 12 months fixed term position, 22.5 hours a week (occasional across site working may be required). This part-time fixed term contract is with the Royal Marsden at the Chelsea site. You will be part of a team consisting of Pharmacists, Technicians and Assistants, collaborating as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team to deliver outstanding care to our patients.

This is an exciting time to join the Royal Marsden Hospital Clinical Trials Department. Our service provides high-quality care to patients and staff, with newly built aseptic and clinical trial areas at the Chelsea site enabling ground-breaking research including gene therapy and CAR-T treatments. The EPIC digital health record system is used to support the pharmacy teams and drive a more efficient, paperless department.

Responsibilities
  • To support the Chief/Deputy Chief Technician Clinical Trials and Senior Clinical Trials Technicians in the provision of the clinical trials service within the pharmacy department. Responsibilities include technical and clerical duties as well as a clinical trial receptionist service, carried out under supervision of more senior staff. You will work with hospital staff by telephone and in person.
  • All Clinical Trials must be carried out in accordance with current UK Clinical Trial Regulations, the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulation 2004 (EU Clinical Trial Directive) and all updates, together with ICH GCP guidelines and departmental procedures, ensuring a high-quality service to patients and staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and their carers presenting at the pharmacy research hatch and on the telephone.
  • Work closely with the pharmacy clinical trials dispensing team to minimise patient waiting times, liaising with appropriate staff when necessary.
  • Assist in the coordination of the receipt, storage and supply of clinical trial medication within the Pharmacy Department.
  • Provide clerical support for the Senior Technicians Clinical Trials, Deputy Chief Technicians Clinical Trials, Chief Technician Clinical Trials, Specialist Pharmacist Clinical Trials and Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trials as required.
  • Assist with maintaining adequate stock levels of medication including ordering to ensure uninterrupted dosing and recruitment.
  • Be responsible for accurately recording patient returns on Drug Accountability Forms and completing Destruction Forms once approved by the sponsor.
  • Be responsible for daily temperature monitoring and maintaining temperature records.
