Overview

We are looking for committed individuals to join the world of hospital pharmacy and our friendly teams, to make a difference to patient care. We currently have full and part time opportunities at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester, and a full time position at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. You will often be the first point of contact for health care professionals across the hospital and members of the public using our service. You must be self-motivated, able to pay attention to detail, work to deadlines and have strong communication skills.

An NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or the dispensing assistant course qualification is desirable; however, full training will be provided to successful applicants. Career progression to band 3 and a more clinical role is encouraged and supported, and we are committed to providing flexible working opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with Pharmacists, Technicians and other Assistants.
  • Work in all areas of the pharmacy as part of the assistant rota, including the Dispensary, Stores, and Stock Distribution; duties include dispensing medications, reception duties, receiving and processing orders, supplying medications to wards via top-ups, and replenishing medications on wards.
  • Gain skills within an aseptics environment to assist with making chemotherapy medication for patients.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy, work efficiently within each team, and be flexible to undertake varied tasks.
  • Deliver medications to wards and departments and participate in established bank holiday and weekend rotas until 7-day working is introduced.

  • Experience (Essential): Experience of working as part of a team; experience of applying high attention to detail; experience of working to deadlines.
  • Experience (Desirable): Previous hospital or community pharmacy experience; experience of dealing with customers or patient care; experience of stock control.
  • Qualifications (Desirable): NVQ level 2 pharmacy services or equivalent; GCSE or equivalent English and Maths; NPA counter assistant course.
  • Knowledge and Skills (Essential): Clear and effective verbal and written communication; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to use Microsoft Office and standard keyboard skills.
  • Knowledge and Skills (Desirable): Awareness of infection prevention and control, information governance and confidentiality; knowledge of Pharmacy Policies and medicines including naming, handling and storage; knowledge of Health and Safety at Work including COSHH and Manual Handling.
