Job Overview

We seek an inspiring and dynamic pharmacist to join our senior pharmacy management team as the Pharmacist Team Manager for Education, Training and Governance.

Main Duties of the Job

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is committed to driving improvements, and whose passion for patient care is infectious. You should have a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and be able to demonstrate evidence of postgraduate training and continuing professional development in clinical pharmacy practice.

Whilst ideally this would be in mental health, this post is first and foremost about operational delivery of Great Care – your transferable skills mean you will have what it takes to do what it takes. Experience in mentoring and line managing teams with energy and enthusiasm are vital ingredients, and anyone with a track record of similar in a non-specialist trust is encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of the pharmacy strategy in relation to the pharmacy education, training and governance team.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of pharmaceutical education sessions for clinical staff (e.g. prescribers, nurses) within the Trust, including induction and post-qualification training.
  • Lead on education and training within the pharmacy team, ensuring compliance with professional requirements and overseeing staff undertaking postgraduate studies and progression roles.
  • Lead on clinical supervision within the pharmacy team, including supporting the development of clinical supervisors and assessing the quality of supervision.
  • Manage the Trust Formulary and Prescribing Guidelines; prepare new drug reviews and support medicines management group work.
  • Support innovation within the pharmacy education, training and governance team.
  • Promote and facilitate pharmacy practice related research within mental and community health pharmacy services.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate use of medicines, including regular prescription review, identification of drug interactions and adverse effects, and advice on clinical monitoring.
  • Support the provision of a clinical pharmacy service to assigned wards or when supervising others undertaking a clinical pharmacy role.
  • Deputise for the Deputy Chief Pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy as required.
  • Lead the development and delivery of trust-wide initiatives and projects relating to medicines management as requested by the Deputy Chief Pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy colleagues to meet organisational needs and participate in clinical audit.
Qualifications
Education and Qualification
  • Current and continued registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a practising member.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant area of pharmacy practice, or willingness to work towards the qualification.
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a member or willing to work towards Faculty membership.
  • Member of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Qualification as an independent Non-Medical Prescriber, or willingness to work towards the qualification.
  • Certificate in Management studies or equivalent management experience.
  • Further qualification in pharmacy or healthcare education (e.g. post-graduate certificate in medical education) or willingness to work towards the qualification.
Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating skills including effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of writing procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Able to identify own training needs and those of others; evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Proficient IT skills, e.g. ability to use Microsoft Office applications, internet, etc.
  • Understanding of training requirements including legal compliance of all types of pharmacy staff.
Skills and Experience
  • Significant post-registration clinical pharmacy experience, preferably across different specialities within acute and mental health services.
  • Experience of developing and leading clinical audit.
  • Experience of managing, developing and mentoring staff.
  • Experience of providing relevant pharmacy services within a mental health / learning disability / community health setting.
  • Experience of working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
