Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Scotland seeks a strategic leader for its pharmacy medicines policy across NHS Lanarkshire. This part-time role involves providing expert advice on pharmaceutical matters, overseeing clinical audits, and representing the organization in national discussions. Job description
The Role

To be responsible for the strategic leadership, planning and development of the pharmacy medicines policy & guidance service across NHS Lanarkshire, encompassing both acute and primary care services.

To be responsible for providing expert advice, assurance and governance on pharmaceutical matters relating to clinical guidelines/protocols/policies etc. and to ensure alignment and compliance with medicines legislation.

To represent NHS Lanarkshire at a regional and national level and actively participate in the wider strategic agenda for medicine guidance for example the single national formulary.

To lead and develop a programme of clinical audits and undertake and co‑ordinate research into own area of responsibility.

What we’ll need you to bring

Qualifications & Training

  • Masters of Pharmacy Degree
  • Registered Member General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Relevant Post Graduate Master’s degree/diploma, for example Clinical Pharmacy or Management etc.
  • Demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge / service provision and development.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development / management training.

Experience

  • Experience and ability to initiate, lead, manage and supervise a range of projects.
  • Experience of managing and motivating staff, appraising and giving feedback.
  • Experience in presenting complex and contentious information to junior and senior clinical and non‑clinical staff.

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of medicines policy & governance
  • Demonstrates advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement.

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to influence senior pharmacy, nursing and medical staff and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Exemplar presentation and communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability to identify problems, analyse root cause and propose solutions for complex problems.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
  • Proven project / practice research / audit skills.
  • Ability to integrate research into practice.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Willingness to work on public holidays.
  • Car driver & access to vehicle.

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have
  • Post graduate in Clinical
  • Pharmacy or Management
  • Independent Prescribing qualification
  • Extensive post registration hospital experience.
  • Experience in delivering clinical services to specialist patients.
  • Demonstrates advanced level of clinical reasoning / judgement and use of clinical audit to improve practice.
  • Evidence of improvement in quality of service
  • Ability to identify and prioritise clinical work to effectively monitor patient’s therapeutic regimens in order to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of national and local priorities
  • Identifies a vision for the delivery of pharmaceutical services to required patient population.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks.
  • Ensures that the training needs of junior pharmacists are identified and met.
Contract type
  • Fixed Term or Secondment for 6 months

  • 18.5 hours

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro‑rata.

Please note this is a fixed term post for 6 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in University Hospital Wishaw within Pharmacy.
