A dynamic healthcare provider is seeking a Band 8a Locum Pharmacist to lead the pharmacy service in a busy clinical directorate at Aintree, Liverpool. The ideal candidate will possess significant hospital pharmacy experience and strong clinical knowledge, along with excellent communication and leadership skills. Responsibilities include ensuring effective medication use, providing specialist advice, and supporting service improvements. This is a full-time role with an immediate start.

Qualifications

  • GPhC registration required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the pharmacy service within the directorate.
  • Ensure safe and effective use of medicines.
  • Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to clinical teams.
  • Support multidisciplinary working across the directorate.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based protocols and policies.
  • Contribute to governance, risk management, and audit activity.
  • Support junior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
  • Work closely with clinical leaders to drive patient care.

  • We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Band 8a Pharmacist to lead and develop the pharmacy service within a busy clinical directorate at Aintree.
  • This is a key senior role, ideal for a confident and forward-thinking pharmacist with proven hospital experience and a passion for service improvement.
About the Role

As the Band 8a Pharmacist, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading, managing, and developing the directorate’s pharmacy service
  • Ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines
  • Providing highly specialist pharmaceutical advice to clinical teams
  • Supporting multidisciplinary working across the directorate
  • Developing and implementing evidence-based protocols, guidelines, policies, and pathways
  • Contributing to governance, risk management, and audit activity
  • Supporting junior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians through training and mentorship
  • Working closely with senior clinical and operational leaders to drive high standards of patient care
Requirements
  • GPhC-registered Pharmacist
  • Significant hospital pharmacy experience (essential)
  • Strong clinical knowledge within a specialist area
  • Experience contributing to or leading service development
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of medicines governance, optimisation, and formulary processes
