Overview

Location: York

Hours: 12 hour overnight shift, every two weeks / twice a month

Pay: £12.21 per hour

About the Role

We are looking for a kind, reliable and flexible Personal Assistant / Support Worker to provide overnight support for a 7-year-old boy at our home in York. If you are caring, enthusiastic and have the right skills to support a child with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

• Preparing snacks and drinks between tea time and bedtime
• Personal care, including helping with toileting, dressing for bed, and bath time
• Supporting the bedtime routine and helping him to settle to sleep
• Staying awake overnight to provide reassurance and care if he wakes (he may sometimes stay awake for long periods)

Essential Skills & Qualities

• Patience and a fun, engaging approach
• Willingness to ask for help when needed
• Understanding of autism and pica
• Flexibility in approach

Desirable Skills

• Makaton Level 2–4
• Experience working with disabled children
• Experience working with non-speaking children, especially using a total communication approach

Requirements

• Basic DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
• Two references
