This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Kent Health Visiting Service as a Perinatal and Infant MentalHealth Lead Health Visitor. The Lead Health Visitor for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health will be responsiblefor supporting the development and implementation of the Health Visiting Service’s Perinatal and InfantMental Health offer. They will work in the locality areas of West Kent (Tonbridge and Malling, Tunbridge Wellsand Maidstone) to provide expert clinical leadership to the Health Visiting Service and multi-disciplinary teamsin relation to Perinatal and Infant Mental Health and Parent and Infant Relationship. The post holder willensure the development and implementation of comprehensive multi-disciplinary care pathways, policies andprocedures, to address the mental health needs of women, infants, and their families in the perinatal period,actively working in collaboration with other services.

Main duties of the job

The PIMH Lead Health Visitor role requires a high level of relevant expert knowledge and skills to ensureconsistency, equity and efficiency of service delivery to families. They will work as part of the local healthvisiting team to support the wider delivery of the health visiting service, provide relevant training pertaining toPerinatal and Infant Mental Health, Parent Infant Relationship, Emotional Well-being and Birth Trauma. Thelead will also provide support and guidance to practitioners with an emphasis on prevention and earlyidentification of mental health difficulties. They will build / strengthen partnership and foster positiverelationships between parents and their infants. This will be achieved through the development of trainingpackages, and programmes that aligned with national and local policies and procedures which will be deliveredinternally, to our external partners and the wider public health workforce. The Lead will also be responsiblefor co-facilitated group interventions, and support the delivery of the Institute of Health Visiting’s EmotionalWellbeing Visits intervention and ensure that practice is evidence-based.

Essential criteria
  • Health Visiting Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification
  • Training / qualifications specific to Perinatal Mental Health
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Post Graduate Specialist qualifications (Level 7) relevant to area of practice
  • Relevant qualification in clinical supervision
  • Registered mental health qualification
  • Relevant certificate in Education and Training Facilitation Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET)
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Health Visiting
  • Supporting others (mentor / coach / educator / supervisor)
  • Experience of developing policy and service development plans with practical experience of change management
  • Evidence of delivering high quality teaching to staff groups
  • Experience in managing complex caseloads and working with vulnerable families
  • Significant experience in Perinatal and Infant Mental Health
Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge in relation to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme
  • Understanding of National Service Framework policies and procedures, safeguarding, and NICE guidelines
  • Up-to-date research based professional knowledge about Perinatal and Infant Mental Health including appropriate interventions
  • Specialist knowledge and experience in perinatal and infant mental health, developed through training and practice
  • Understanding of the impact of poor parental mental health on infants and other family members, and the role that the health visiting services can play in mitigating this
Desirable criteria
  • Have a working knowledge of common psychiatric medications used for the treatment of women during pregnancy and postnatally
  • Proven ability to develop effective partnerships to achieve practical outcomes across organisational boundaries including statutory organisations, external agencies, community and voluntary organisations
